Ich habe eben einen Brief erhalten, geehrter Herr Holtze, von Prof. Naudin, worin er mir mittheilt, dass alle Samen von Euc. miniata, welche Sie so freundlich waren zu senden, gut keimten, dass aber an der Küste des mittelländischen Meeres, wo doch die Temperatur so milde ist, die Sämlinge zu Grunde gingen, während dort andere Eucalypten gut gedeihen.

Glauben Sie, dass die Euc. miniata an irgend eine besondere Bodenart, vielleicht an Kalk gebunden ist? Ich erinnere, dass dies der Eindruck war, den der Baum 1855 & 1856 auf mich machte.

Könnten noch einmal Samen davon erlangt werden? Auch von E. phoenicea, welche ähnliche Rinde und auch scharlach-rothe Blüthen hat, sind die Samen sehr erwünscht. Vielleicht besorgt solche ein Freund weiter östlich. Haben Sie das ächte

old spelling = echte.

im Wuchs dort? Wenn nicht so will ich Ihnen die Wurzeln in einem Glass Kasten senden. Das Grass ist für tropische Gegenden , selbst für losen Sand, von höchster Wichtigkeit . Wie hat sich bei Ihnen und M. orbicularis bewährt! Der "Key" wird im nächsten Monat erscheinen. Darnach will ich auch wieder Pflanzen von Ihnen vornehmen

where the temperature is so mild, while other eucalypts grow well there.

Do you think that is linked to some particular type of soil, perhaps limestone ? I remember that was the impression I gained of the tree in 1855 and 1856.

Could seeds of it be obtained again? The seeds of E. phoenicea, which has similar bark and scarlet flowers as well, is also very desirable. Perhaps a friend further east can obtain them. Do you have the true
