Ermüdet schreibe ich diese Zeilen in der Mitternachts Stunde, lieber Herr Tepper, aber wenn ein Brief erst aus der Hand gelegt wird, möchte er ganz unbeantwortet bleibe. Trotzdessen, dass eich in 1893 etwa 6000 Breife schrieb oder deren Equivalent.

Die Pflanze, welche Sie mir senden jetzt ist eine , aber es wird am Besten sein, mit der Bestimmung der Art zu warten, bis auch reife Früchte herbeigeschafft werden können.

Ziemlich viel Manuscr. für den Suppl. Band ist fertig, aber da fast täglich neue Sammlungen hier eintreffen, welche neue Standorte geben, habe ich es wünschenswerth gehalten, den Druck nicht zu beschleunigen. Die Arbeit eines solchen Bandes ist viel schwerer als die irgend eines der ersten 7 Bände.

Recht gern werde ich auch die Pflanzen, von denen Sie sprechen, benennen u Ihnen die Ex zurücksenden. Es würde mir schaden, verliesse in dieser Zeit der Finanznoth auch nur für kurze Zeit meinen Posten !

Herr Holtze wird dies auch einsehen. Ist Dr Brown von Victoria dort zurückgekehrt.

The plant that you send me now is a , but it will be best to wait with the determination of the species until ripe fruits can also be collected.

Rather a lot of manuscript for the supplementary volume

The proposed but never published supplement to the Flora australiensis. See O. Tepper to M, 12 June 1894, where Tepper inquired about the supplement's progress.

is ready, but since new collections arrive here almost daily that give new localities, I have thought it desirable not to speed up the printing . The work of such a volume is much harder than that of any of the first 7 volumes.

I will very willingly also name the plants of which you speak and send you back the specimens. It would injure me, if I left my post in these times of financial problems even only for a short time

No evidence of Browne's visiting Melbourne has been found, nor has any evidence been found that his brother William James Browne had been in Australia in 1894 prior to his death in Eastbourne, England on 4 December.
