Many of the record numbers in this list are not in the MEL collection. All but one of the specimens that are in the collection are dated to October 1888, and the other is dated 1888 without further precision. M to M. Holtze 20 October 1888 (in this edition as 88-10-20a) asked for more information on orchids (see below) and reported that he had 'freed a few hours immediately to name your plants at least provisionally'. This list may not have accompanied the letter of 20 October, but it was evidently M's intention to prepare it close to that date. It is accordingly dated to October 1888.
