Es wird Sie sehr freuen, edler Herr, dass ich im subtropischen Ost-Australia einen ansässigen Herrn gewonnen habe, Algen zu sammeln. Die Localität ist eine neue und — wie es scheint — reiche! Diese Algen, von denen ich nur eine unvollständige Dubletten-Sammlung für das Regierungs-Herbarium hier zurück-behalte, sind von Mr James Keys an der Mündung des Burnett-Flusses gesammelt. Ich war nur einmal am Burnett-Fluss, 1856, wie ich mit Gregory den Austral Continent (nach 17 monatlicher Abwesenheit von allen Niederlassungen und nachdem wir lange von Fleisch unserer Pack-Pferde gelebt) durchschritten hatte von N.W. nach N.O., zur Zeit wo selbst noch am Burnett-Fluss die Eingebornen sehr feindselig und Cannibalen waren!

Gönnen Sie mir nach aller Mühe die kleine Freude, dass die interim Namen für die und verbleibt, sollten sich solche etwa als neu erweisen. Harvey that dasselbe. Wir müssen einen so guten Sammler wie Keys encouragiren.

It will please you very much, noble Sir, that I have obtained a gentleman resident in subtropical east Australia to collect algae. The locality is a new and — as it seems — rich one! These algae, of which I keep back here only an incomplete duplicate collection for the Government Herbarium, are collected by Mr James Keys at the mouth of the Burnett River.

I was only once at the Burnett River, in 1856

During the North Australian Exploring Expedition, 1855-6.

as I traversed the Austral continent with Gregory (after a 17-month absence from all settlements and after we lived for a long time on meat from our pack horses) from north-west to north-east, at the time when even the Aborigines at the Burnett River were still very hostile and cannibals!

Grant me after all the trouble the small pleasure that the interim names remain for the and , should such for instance prove to be new. Harvey did the same. We must encourage such a good collector as Keys.

Algaebase (accessed 18 June 2017) contains no or named for Keys; however in Agardh's list of algae collected by Keys at the entrance to the Burnett River (J. Agardh to M, undated (in this edition as 89-00-00b)), specimen number 11 is named as Keysii, with the name attributed to M.

Filed with this letter is a draft note from Agardh to M reporting that Keys's collection had arrived badly damaged; see J. Agardh to M, undated (in this edition as 88-11-00).
