Deinem venerablen Schwieger Vater? Immer in Freundschaft Dein

Council?
17/6/96.
Could you make arrangements, dear Krichauff, to have the South Australian Government
Expedition under Mr Hübbe also to collect the rarer plants on the return journey,
and if possible also the
very
smallest
plants that are
rich in species
in the desert, and among which more
new things
can be found than among the larger plants. This also concerns the further determination
of the area of distribution even of the miniature plants.
Is Mr Hübbe a son of the Dr Hübbe who knew me there in the 40s of the century?
2
Samuel Hübbe, leader of the South Australian Exploring Expedition, was the son of
Dr Ulrich Hübbe.
Recently I again had a letter from Ohrt.
How are you all and especially your venerable father-in-law?
3
Near Oldenburg, Germany? No letters addressed from this place have been found.
Always in friendship your

The file includes a translation, in Krichauff's hand, of the first paragraph of M's
letter, and also a letter from Krichauff to SA’s Commissioner of Crown Lands, P. P.
Gillen, that reads, in part, 'I have been requested by my friend Baron Ferd. von Mueller
to ask you to instruct Mr Hübbe to collect the smaller plants on his return journey.
As this will not be a great incumbrance I hope you will agree to give at least a hint
to Mr Hübbe that the collection of these plants would be desirable. I enclose Baron
von Mueller's letter.' AVH records no specimens collected by Hübbe in MEL (accessed
7 December 2022).
The enclosed letter from the magistrate Panton, who belongs to our geographical Council.

See J. Panton to M, 14 June 1896 (in this edition as 96-06-14b). Krichauff also forwarded Panton's letter to Gillen.
