My Dear Baron
You may be interested in reading the enclosed notice of the arrival in W.A of the
South Australian Exploring Expedition.
Mr Hubbe appears to have traversed the beaten track up to Alexander Spring near Mts
Allott & Worsnop then to have taken a southerly westerly course passing near Lake
Way (Wells’ Exploration) — and to the north of the Newbury Range to the Mt Margaret
water holes.

Enclosure not found. For a report of the party's arrival on 3 June 1896 at Menzies,
WA (
c. 130 km north of Kalgoorlie) and notes on the route taken, see 'The Hubbe exploring
party. Arrival at Menzies', Inquirer and commercial news (Perth), 5 June 1896, p. 16.
As he is now somewhere on the eastern gold fields awaiting orders from the S.A. Govt
a suggestion from you might get him sent north by the West shore of Lake MacDonald
to the Emily Spring of Warburton & thence
east
to the telegraph line which might open up a good northern stock track into W. A.

See also, from the same file, M to F. Krichauff, 17 June 1896. A minute on the file dated 15 August with an illegible signature records: 'Returned
to Cn Lands Office. As the Route suggested is northerly & north Easterly through Western
Australia and into the Northern Territory it would of course have been quite out of
the question and so it has been decided that Mr Hübbe will return by the coast to
Fowlers Bay, he cannot collect the plants mentioned’.
Yours Sincerely
Jo. Panton
