Today, highly esteemed Professor, I have sent a
small box
to you through the
parcel post
registered, which includes a small bottle
containing marine organisms from Encounter Bay,
where Dr Verco, the foremost physician of South Australia, collected oceanic specimens
with the drag net during his holiday.
2
These specimens were originally intended for Paris, see M to E. Bornet, 18 February 1896.

SA.
I have not opened the glass vessel, therefore not investigated whether it also contains
zoological items. In this case I would like to ask you in the name of Dr Verco to
give the animal organisms to a Scandinavian zoologist for naming. Dr Verco was president
of the first Australian (intercolonial) congress.
In that of Melbourne there were about 500 physicians present, and I presided in the
therapeutic section.

Intercolonial Medical Congress, September 1887, held in Adelaide.

Held in Melbourne, January 1889. M was president of the Pharmacology section, which
in his sectional presidential address he said 'may be regarded as equivalent for Therapeutics,
Materia Medica and Pharmacy unitedly' (B89.13.16, p. 909).
Respectfully your
Ferd von Mueller
Next year I will celebrate the 50-year jubilee of my
first
doctorate.
