Als Deutscher, lieber Herr Tepper, sind auch gewiss Sie um das Geschick Leichhardts bekümmert, u als Süd-Australier noch mehr, da seine Parthei nahe ihrer Grenzen umgekommen sein muss. Ich möchte nun noch einen Versuch machen, sein Schicksal zu ermitteln, was jetzt gar nicht schwer ist, und nur von Geldmitteln abhängt. Ich versuche einige reiche Squatters zu bewegen, für nächste kühle Jahreszeit die Mittel dafür herzugeben, u möchte Sie nun im Vertrauen berathen, ob es wünschenswerth sei, dass ich mich an Dr Brown wende. Ist er liberaler Disposition? Hat er Familie? In diesem Falle wird es wohl nichts nützen, sich ihm zu nähern, denn Familien-Häuser halten das Gewinnen für deren Nachkommen zusammen.

As a German, dear Mr Tepper, you are also certainly concerned about the fate of Leichhardt, and as a South Australian even more, since his party must have died near your boundaries. I would now like to make another attempt to ascertain his fate, which is not difficult at all now , and only depends on finance.

I am trying to persuade some rich squatters to give the funds for it for the next cool season, and would like now to consult you in confidence whether it would be desirable that I turn to Dr Browne.

John Harris Browne.

Is he of liberal disposition? Has he family? If this is the case it would probably be of no use to approach him, because families hold on to their gains for their descendants.
