Ich glaube Sie noch nicht berathen zu haben, hochgeehrter Freund, wie ich lange schon gewünscht, in Bezug auf Ihre Ansichten in der Einschaltung der Monochlamydeen. Da der 3te Census bald erscheinen muss, würde ich Ihnen recht dankbar sein, wenn Sie mir mit kurzen Worten die Stellungen andeuten wollen, in welche Sie die Monochlamydeen Familien jede stellen würden zwischen den übrigen Ordnungen der , ausgenommen die & welche ich als einzig bleibend von den Monochlamydeen beibehalte, und nicht neben die stelle. Sie kennen ja den 2ten Census of Austral. plants, in welchem ich meine Ansichten bezüglich der systematischen Reihenfolge der Ordnungen entwickelt habe vom australischen Standpunkt. Ihre Einblicke von anderen Erfahrungen möchten mir noch manche gute Winke geben.

Kann ich Ihnen Sämereien senden für den bot. Garten, oder steht solcher nicht mehr unter Ihrer Direction? Mir sind die Genfer bot. Verhältnisse nicht recht klar.

Können Sie mir gütig die Schrift angegeben, in welcher Brogniart die einzog? Ich that es vor Grisebach.

Because the 3rd Census must soon be published, I would be very grateful to you if you would indicate to me briefly the positions in which you would put every family of among the remaining orders of the , except the & which I retain as the sole remaining of the and do not place next to the . You do know the 2nd Census of Australian plants in which I have developed my views in reference to the systematic sequence of the orders from the Australian standpoint. Your views from other experiences may yet give me many good suggestions.

The planned third edition was not published.

Can I send you seeds for the botanical garden or does it no longer stand under your direction? The botanical circumstances of Geneva are not very clear to me.

Could you kindly indicate to me the reference in which Brogniart

i.e. Brongniart.

removed the ?

Where Brongniart 'removed' the group has not been found, but Brongniart (1868), chapter 1, discusses the general point. However, in M to J. Hooker, 8 September 1873 (in this edition as 73-09-08b), M pointed out problems with Brongniart's position. See also Maroske (2006) and Stevens (1994), especially chapters 4 and 5.
