Nur wenige Zeilen diesmal, lieber Herr Tepper, aber ich möchte Ihnen ein eben angelangtes Heft des Agricultur-Journals der Capstadt vorlegen zur Durchsicht (u gefällige Rücksendung) da dies Blatt eben auch eine Notiz über Regenbildung durch Explosive bringt. Ich bin keineswegs ein Verfechter dieser Theorie, aber verwerfe auch nichts mit Vorurtheil. Wenn man bedenkt, was die letzten 50 Jahre uns gebracht haben durch Photographie, Spectroskopie, Phonographie, Bacillarien-Lehre in Bezug auf Miasmate u Contagien &c &c, müssen wir auf manche andere Entdeckungen, welche zuerst als unglaublich erscheinen vorbereitet sein.

Only a few lines this time, dear Mr Tepper, but I should like to give you a part of the Agricultural Journal of Capetown just arrived for examination (and kind return) because this journal also just brings a notice about rain formation by explosives.

Probably an article 'Rain-making in Texas, United States of North America', Agricultural journal published by the Department of Agriculture of the Cape Colony, vol. 4, no. 10 (19 November 1891), p. 116. See also M to O. Tepper, 20 February 1892, and notes thereto. Texas experiments were also reported in Australia, e.g. 'Artificial rain-production', Australasian (Melbourne), 14 November 1891, p. 7, sometimes with sceptical comment, e.g. in 'Science notes', Weekly times (Melbourne), 6 February 1892, p. 8.

I am in no way a defender of this theory, but also reject nothing with prejudice. When one thinks what the last 50 years have brought us through photography, spectroscopy, phonography, bacterial theory in reference to miasmata and contagion &c &c, we must be prepared for many other discoveries that at first appear unbelievable.
