Sie werden sich gewundert haben, geehrter Herr Tepper, dass ich den Empfang Ihrer schönen Abhandlung bisher noch nicht anerkannte. Durch den ganzen Monat bin ich aber so sehr mit Amtspflichten überladen gewesen, dass ich weiteren Angelegenheiten keine Aufmerksamkeit widmen konnte. Ich wollte Ihnen auch gern gleich mittheilen an welche Gesellschaft nach meinem Urtheil wohl diese Xanthorrhoea Schrift am Besten gesandt werden könnte, u habe ich darüber zur Entscheidung noch nicht kommen können. Sie werden aber doch bald weiter von mir hören. Mir scheint, es wäre besser, solche hier in Australien zur Veröffentlichung zu bringen, da Ihre Abhandlung sich doch wohl nicht ganz für die L.S. eignet.

Ich selbst habe mich krank gearbeitet an dem "Key" u doch ist er noch nicht fertig, da die tägliche Routine-Arbeit so enorm ist, ganz abgesehen von den Extra-Obliegenheiten für die Welt-Austellung eben jetzt.

Es war eben so wenig für mich möglich, eine Woche für Adelaide frei zu machen, als jetzt für Sydney. Ich könnte einfach die sich dann inzwischen noch mehr häufenden Arbeiten nicht überwinden. Es freuet mich ausserordentlich, dass ich nächsten Sommer das Vergnügen haben werde, Sie persönlich kennenzulernen.

However, I have been overloaded so much with official duties through the whole month, that I could not devote any attention to wider affairs. I also wanted to tell you immediately to which society according to my opinion the Xanthorrhoea paper could probably best be sent and have still not yet been able to come to a decision about it. However, you will certainly soon hear from me again. It seems to me it would be better to publish it here in Australia , since your paper is probably not quite suitable for the Linnean Society.

It was just as impossible for me to make a week free for Adelaide as it is now for Sydney. I simply could not overcome the work that mounted up even more in the meantime. I am extremely pleased that I'll have the pleasure of becoming acquainted with you personally next summer.
