This day, dear Prof Tate, I got a letter from Mr Thiselton-Dyer,
the Assistant Director of Kew, urging that some leading specialist in Geology should
take particularly charge of your Candidature at the R.S. Please write
at once
to your
geologic
friends to cooperate with Mr Dyer in your interest.
He requested me, on the suggestion of Prof Mich Foster,
to write out special notes in reference to your researches, which I have done forthwith.

As finally lodged, Tate's nomination certificate at the Royal Society of London included,
in addition to the signatures of his Australian and NZ sponsors (M, James Hector,
Julius Haast, Frederick McCoy, Robert Ellery and George Verdon), those of Sir Henry
Barkly, the botanists Daniel Oliver and J. G. Baker, and the palaeontologists Robert
Etheridge Sr and H. B. Woodward.
