I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 2. inst,
intimating your intention to cause the country between the River Finke
and Lake Eyre to be searched for any possible vestiges of the party of the explorer
Leichhardt.

Allow me to thank you for the very handsome manner, in which you have instituted this
measure, and let me hope, that while it will contribute to disclose the fate of the
lost explorers, it will add also to the knowledge of a new and important tract of
country for the advancement of settlement and geography.
