letter was forwarded by M to Petermann, presumably with his letter of 27 July 1866 (in this edition as 66-07-22b); though the enclosure is not mentioned in M's letter, the two items have the same
arrival date annotated on them by Petermann.

My dear Sir,
I send you by this mail a chart with the bearings of the Leichhardt River laid down
upon it as taken by me in my last trip to the Gulf.
I trust it may be of some interest to you as it was hitherto unknown.

Gulf of Carpentaria, Qld.
I send you some seed which I gathered between the Norman & Gilbert Rivers,
the tree
grows 15 to 20 feet high, the leaf exactly like an accacia but of a very dark green
color, the seed grows in a pod like a bean. I quite omitted to bring the leaf. The
tree I have seen before but this was the first time I could obtain any of the seed.
