Letter not found. The text given here is from a report of the discussion following Planchon's presentation of his paper (Planchon (1867)) at the International Botanical Congress in Paris in August 1867; see p. 124. It is dated to 1866 as a possible date, as Weddell was almost certainly working on his monograph (Weddell (1869)), and M had an indirect communication from Weddell in that year; see G. Bentham to M, 18 June 1866.

Ferdinand Mueller (de Melbourne) lui a parlé, dans une de ses lettres, d'un chez lequel on a trouvé une cavité complétement fermée, de 2 à 3 mètres de longueur, revêtue intérieurement d'une couche d'écorce tout à fait semblable à l'écorce extérieure de la même plante.]

Mr Ferdinand Mueller (of Melbourne) spoke to him, in one of his letters, of a in which was found a completely closed cavity, 2 to 3 metres in length, covered internally with a layer of bark. quite similar to the outer bark of the same plant.
