Weihnachtstag 1864.

Die Karten u Atlasse, verehrter Freund, sind nach Ihrer Weisung vertheilt. Ich will versuchen die Journals u. Karten Walkers u. Landsboroughs für Sie herbei zu schaffen u solche der nächsten Sendung beifügen. Inzwischen habe ich Ihnen bereits mehreres Andere wieder auf mehrfachem Wege für Ihr Institut gesandt. Proeschel hat mit seinen Karten Australien verlassen. Es ist mir nicht möglich gewesen einen Apterix aufzutreiben; indessen habe ich doch ja noch manches andere zu senden u kann daher dies Thier später mitliefern.

Sie waren so freundlich mir einige Copien Zeitungen mit letzter Post u. mehrere Blätter Ihrer schätzbaren Zeitschriften her zu senden, deren betreffende Notizen hier immer benutzt werden.

I shall try to procure the diaries and maps of Walker and Landsborough for you and enclose them with the next consignment. Meanwhile I have already sent you several others for your institute by various means. Proeschel has left Australia with his maps. I have not succeeded in securing an Apteryx;

however, I still have to send quite a few other things and can enclose this animal at a later date.

You were so kind as to send me several copies of newspapers by the last mail, and also several issues of your esteemed journal;

Mittheilungen aus Justus Perthes geographischer Anstalt (ed. Petermann). M passed on items of interest to newspapers in Australia, particularly the German-language press in Melbourne, from the journal and from German newspapers sent by Petermann.
