Theuerer Herr Professor
Ihr liebreiches Schreiben vom 15 Mai kam mit letzter Monats-Post in meine Hände. So
bin ich Ihnen denn wieder zum Danke verpflichtet für die reiche Samensendung, die
Sie meinem Garten schenkten. Inzwischen wird Sie eine andere Samensammlung von hier
erreicht haben. Für Ihre Winke in Bezug auf Cacteen Cultur herzlichen Dank. Die Früchte
der Banksia, früher gesandt, gehören d. B. serrata an.
Ich habe um Verzeihung zu flehen, dass ich so nachlässig in meiner Zusendung der Fragmenta
gewesen u werde ich die fehlenden Nummern durch M. Lejourdan in Marseilles zusenden.
Wir haben ja leider keine Buchpost mit dem Continent u ebensowenig directe Schiffahrt.
Dadurch stehe ich im Nachtheil, da von jedem Lande der Erde directer Verkehr
hieher
aber nicht zurück besteht. Es mag sich auch ereignet haben, dass einige Nummern,
Privathänden anvertraut, verloren gegangen sind. Den 3. Band hatte ich die Freude
Ihnen gebunden durch M. Lejourdan vor einigen Monaten zu senden. Ich werde es veranlassen,
dass eine vollständige Series unserer Bände der phil. Gesellschaft u nun Royal Society
an die Wiener Bibliothek gesandt werden.
Ich habe eben die Bearbeitung der Acacien für die Flora von Victoria vollendet. Die
Zahl reducirt sich auf etwa 50. Nach diesem Masstab dürfen wir die Zahl der sämtlichen
Acacien des austral. Continents kaum mehr als 200 rechnen.
Hr. Dr v. Scherzer wünscht ebenfalls Schriften, welche ich bis zur nächsten Post womöglich
zu erlangen suche.
Die paar Früchte von
möchten willkommen sein.

Dear Professor,
You amiable letter of 15 May arrived with the last monthly mail.
I am once again indebted to you for the rich consignment of seeds you donated for
my Garden. In the meantime another collection of seeds from here should have reached
you. Many thanks for your hints on the culture of cacti. The fruit of the Banksia
sent earlier belong to B. serrata.
I have to beg your forgiveness that I have been so amiss in my transmission of the
Fragmenta and I shall send you the missing numbers via M. Lejourdan in Marseilles.
Unfortunately we have no book post to the Continent, nor direct shipping connections.
I am disadvantaged by this, as a direct connection
to here
exists from every country in the world, but not return. It may also be possible that
some numbers, entrusted to private hands, have been lost. I had the pleasure of sending
you the 3rd volume bound via M. Lejourdan a few months ago.
I shall arrange for a complete series of our volumes of the Philosophical Society,
now Royal Society, to be sent to the Vienna library.
I have just completed work on the
s for the Flora of Victoria. Their number is reduced to about 50. On that scale the
total number of
s for the Australian continent should hardly amount to more than 200.
Dr von Scherzer would also like to have some publications, which I shall try to obtain
by the next mail, if possible.
The few fruit of
may be welcome.
