Letter not found. The text given here is from Bulletin de la Société Impériale Zoologique d'Acclimatation
, vol. 9 (1862), p. 57. The letter is dated to November 1861 as the latest likely
date for it to have been sent and reported at the meeting of the Society held on 3
January 1862.
[Mr Ramel announces the dispatch by Mr Mueller of seeds of Palm trees that appear as
though they should succeed in sheltered places on the coasts of the Mediterranean.
At the same time he points out that Mr Mueller, desirous of increasing the riches
of the Society’s collections, thinks that in the near future he will be able to send
him living specimens of the lyre bird, because he has been able to keep for six months
a female that has been kept isolated, all the while maintaining good health.
