On 4 November 1859 Standish commented: 'I see by the accompanying letter of Dr Mueller
to Mr Leach, that Mr Pearce
directed the attention
of the former gentleman to a certain horse belonging to one of the Government Departments
who is out in the paddock at Dandenong. Would Mr Pearce be good enough to inform me
what horse is referred to?' G. Pearce, Veterinary Surgeon, replied on 5 November:
'The Horse does not belong to the Department of General Police but to the Crown Land
Dept. — and is unfit for saddle & has been at Dandenong for upwards of two years doing
no work. I told Mr Leach he would have to apply to the Crown Land Dept.'
