To the Undersecretary of the Lands-Departm.,
Wellington.
Sir,
In accordance with your request
1
H. Eliott to M, 8 March 1889; see also M to H. Eliott, 22 March 1889.
I have the honor of transmitting by this post 1 lb of seeds of , the Sugar-Gum-tree. This is the whole quantity of seeds, available at present. The species is almost restricted to South-Australia, and even there restricted to a few regions only; thus also the seeds of it are more expensive, than those of most other congeners; but I obtained this quantity at a somewhat lower rate than usual. Please inform me, whether this lot will suffice for present purposes or whether the additional quantity, as first determined on, ought to be purposely collected.

M acquired the seed from E. B. Heyne & Co., Rundle St, Adelaide, having also asked Otto Tepper whether he could secure a supply (see M to O. Tepper, 22 March 1889 (in this edition as 89-03-22b)). The total cost including charges by the time it was received in NZ was £3.1.6 ([Fras.] Stevens to M, 3 May 1889).
I have the honor to be, Sir,
your obedient
Ferd. von Mueller
