Es wird Ihnen bekannt sein, edler Freund, dass sowohl in München als in Belgien ein Index generum plantarum unter Bearbeitung ist, basirt auf B. & H. genera. Wäre es möglich, Ihre unvergleichliche Erfahrung für dies Werk zu verwerthen zum Besten der Flechten Kunde? In der That ist es sehr schwer, Lichenes in unseren Sammlungen zu ordnen, denn seit Nylander seine einfache Namens Liste der Genera gab (ohne Litteratur-Angabe u. ohne sectionale Namen) ist nichts erschienen, so viel ich weiss, wonach man sich richten könnte, obwohl Tuckerman's Werk zu Hülfe kam vor Jahren für Nord Amerika . Jedenfalls werden Sie wohl die Flechten für einen der zwei neuen indices überwachen. Die Wissenschaft würde es als ein bleibend werthvolles Geschenk bewahren, wenn Sie uns ein Heft lieferten unabhängig über Lichenen genera in kurzen Definitionen, das wir neben B. & H. Gen. stellen könnten im selben Format. Für Sie wäre diese Arbeit wohl nicht schwer, zumal wenn conservativ gehalten. Es wäre eine schöne Arbeit für die ruhige Winterzeit.

Sayer wird im December seine Sammlungen aus Neu Guinea senden, u. dann wird auch gewiss wieder Gutes für Sie dabei sein! Sie ehrend

Would it be possible to utilize your incomparable experience for this work for the benefit of the study of lichens? In fact it is very difficult to arrange lichens in our collections, because since Nylander published his simple list of names of genera

(without literature citation and without sectional names) nothing has appeared, as far as I know, that one could follow, although Tuckerman's work came to our aid years ago for North America .

At any rate I suppose you will supervise the lichens for one of the two new indices. Science would preserve it as a permanently valuable gift, if you produced a part for us independently on lichen genera in short definitions that we could put in the same format next to B. & H. Genera. This work would probably not be difficult for you , especially if conservatively regarded. It would be a fine work for the quiet winter time.

Sayer will send his collections from New Guinea in December and then further good things will certainly be among them for you!
