First registered as C85/4140 in the Chief Secretary's Department, then referred to
the Premier.

The honorable Graham Berry, M.L.A.
Chief Secretary &c.
Sir
I have the honor to transmit herewith a letter, received via Sydney from Capt Fayenz,
Commander of the Imperial Austrian Corvette "Saida", conveying his thanks for the
sendings, made through that Ship to Scientific Institutions of Vienne on behalf and
by Order of the Victorian Government.
As the contributions, made by the Director of the zoologic Museum, were despatched
not along with those from the botanic establishment, it would perhaps be recommendable,
that the letter of acknowledgement to Prof M'Coy should proceed from the Undersecretary
or Secretary of the hon the Premier.

See also H. Fayenz to M, April 1885 (in this edition as 85-04-00), and M to G. Berry,
9 April 1885.
I have the honor to be,
Sir,
your obedient servant
Ferd. von Mueller.

Fayenz's letter was forwarded on 27 April 1885 to the Premier, J. Service, who annotated
the file containing it 'seen'. On 27 April 1885, F. McCoy noted: 'The specimens sent
to the Austrian ship Saida of Zoology were a series made by order of the Exhibition
Commissioners of 1880 one of several sets prepared for presentation to various Governments
in acknowledgement of their gifts to Victoria. This & another have remained to be
called for by a Government ship. P.S. The Trustees of the Public Library & Museum
issued the directions to carry out the desire of the Exhib Commrs'.
