Let me offer, dear Louise, my best thanks for the beautiful Christmas Card, sent by
you with such affectionate inscription; and let me also offer my felicitation to you
at the approach of a new year. May it be to you then one of great happiness. I should
like to see you nearer to your dear mother, and trust that an opportunity will arise,
to see that wish fulfilled. It is very honorable of you, that you pushed your own
way in the world; and every one must give you praise for that.
We had here a Conference of the Sydney- and Melbourne-geographic Society, so that
much extra inroad was made into my time for two weeks, and the departmental work came
much into arrear. I have therefore worked through out the holidays, and have even
now no time to write you a long letter.
This day I revised a lot of Examination-papers of the Sydney-University, of which
I am a medical Examiner.
Your Mama writes,
that you sent her such a beautiful photographic card of you; can you spare me one
also?
