MEMORANDUM:
To
Baron Von Mueller K.C.M.G.
Melbourne
By this steamer (Howard Smith & Co) I am sending some specimens of Zamia from Fraser
Island
which appear to be different from the E. Douglasii

Encephalartos douglasii.
The smaller specimens are wrapped in an inner rag and I should like you to examine
their roots carefully as there appears to be a sort of Seed growing from them.
The leaves of these specimens instead of growing straight like the Douglasii thus
have their tips turned back

and the leafstalk appears rounder, but it is possible they may only be young specimens
of the Douglasii
I send also a few leaves of the Douglasii for comparison, they are tied up separately,
but I am afraid they will be much faded and dried up by the time you get them.
None of the specimens I found were larger than those I send and they do not look full
grown plants, the leaves are few compared with the E. Douglasii
