MEMORANDUM:
To Baron Von Mueller K.C.M.G.
Melbourne
Re Encephalartos Douglasii
Macrozamia Douglasii (or Coolbine of Fraser Island)
Upon Reexamination I find the stem rarely reaches three (3) feet in height above ground two (2) feet six (6) inches being the usual size of the large specimens — though reaching four (4) feet underneath the surface. I measured one specimen 2 ft in above ground
1
'I measured … above ground' m arginal addition by McDowall:.
Diameter of stem fifteen (15) inches Greatest length of leaves seven (7) feet. These may be considered the dimensions of the largest specimens
Cannot find any wool
There may be said to be no spiral curvature worth mentioning — either lateral or longitudinal — the young leaves growing up straight & closed like the palms. I send some young leaves tied with the others — but they have been cut too short and are falling asunder.
