13th April [18]81
Sir,
I have the honor to inform you that the Trustees have re-considered your offer of
the collection of German Scientific Works of Herr Fischer, and I am instructed to
inform you that they are prepared to accept the collection as per list for the sum
of One hundred and twenty five pounds.
1
MS marginal addition: '£125'. See H. Sheffield to M, 6 April 1881 (in this edition as 81-04-06a), and the notes thereto. It would appear that M himself paid for both the Rothschild
and Theodor Fischer collections and was subsequently reimbursed by the Library, since at a meeting
of the Library Committee on 28 June, his account for £175 was passed for payment; see State Library of Victoria, Trustees
of the Public Library, Gallery and Museum, Minutes, vol. 13a (MSF12855).
I have the honor to be,
Sir,
Your obedient Servant
Robt Curtis.
Secretary to the Trustees.
Baron von Mueller
