Heute, edler Freund, kommt Ihr gütiges Schreiben vom 16 Febr an. Zunächst meinen besten Glückwunsch zu Ihrem 40Jährigen Amtsjubiläum und die damit glorreich erworbene Auszeichnung von Ihrem Hofe. Da Sie in kräftiger Gesundheit sind, u. eine treue Lebensgefährtin Sie pflegt, werden Sie gewiss noch weit ins nächste Jahrhundert hineinleben u. in aller Rüstigkeit auch schon lange vorher das goldene Jubiläum feiern sowohl Ihres Amtes als Ihrer glücklichen Ehe.
Ich habe Ihre Notiz wegen Bücher-Austausch Ihrer Gesellschaft sogleich an den jetztigen Präsidenten der Linné-Gesellschaft von Sydney, Dr. Cox, befördert, der sicher Ihren Wünschen entsprechen und so auch Ihre Schriften der Stuttgarter Gesellschaft damit gewinnen wird.
Während des Halbjahrs der Weltausstellung häuften sich die Arbeiten hier für mich so sehr, dass mir für Privat Correspondenz keine Musse blieb. Entschuldigen Sie daher mein Schweigen.
Es war mir recht erfreulich , dass sich unter den Reptilien der N. Westküste doch noch 2 neue Arten u. gar ein neues Genus vorfanden. Dingo-Hunde sind durch das Strychnin sehr seltnen geworden; ich will von Neuem versuchen einen Balg zu erlangen, auch von Leipoa, welche sich auch mehr u. mehr verliert u. vor den selbst in die Wüste vordringenden Schaaf Heerden ausstirbt.
Hoffentlich war Ihnen die Tridacna neu. Smithsfield ist nahe Sydney.

Firstly my best wishes for your jubilee of 40 years in office and because of that the gloriously acquired decoration from your court.

Krauss was knighted by the King of Wurttemburg in 1880.
Since you are in robust health and a loyal life companion looks after you, you will undoubtedly live a long way into the next century and in all sprightliness also long before celebrate the golden jubilee of both of your office and your happy marriage.
I have immediately forwarded on your note about book exchange of your society to the present president of the Linnean Society of Sydney, Dr Cox, who will certainly comply with your wishes and so also will obtain your publications of the Stuttgart society because of that.

the work here accumulated for me so much that no leisure remained for private correspondence. Therefore excuse my silence.
I was really pleased that among the reptiles of the northwest coast another two new species and even a new genus were found. Dingos have become very rare through strychnine; I intend to try again to obtain a skin, also of Leipoa which disappear even more and more and die out before the flocks of sheep advancing even into the desert.
It is to be hoped the Tridacna was new to you. Smithsfield is near Sydney.
