Melbourne 27 June 1877
W. H. Odgers Esqr
Undersecretary.
Sir
In compliance with the request of the hon. the Chief Secretary,
1
See W. Odgers to M, 26 June 1877 (in this edition as 77-06-26a).
I have the honor to transmit herewith four ounces of fresh seeds of , for experimental culture in the Punjab. As this species does not endure a tropic clime so well as the Red Gum tree (E. rostrata) I have added 4 ounces also of that species.

The Chief Secretary, G. Berry, wrote to the official in India who had written to him, G. Batten, on 7 July 1877, reporting that the seeds supplied by M had been sent (Unit 45, VPRS 1187, VA 475 Chief Secretary's Department, Public Record Office, Victoria). On 3 October 1877, G. Lane, Secretary to the Tender Board, wrote to Odgers saying a case of seeds for the Central Forest Department, India, had arrived from the Under Secretary's Office without the 'usual requisition or other authority'. The seeds had been forwarded, but he awaited the paperwork (M77/10982, unit 1027, VPRS 3991/P, Public Record Office, Victoria).
I have the honor to be,
Sir,
your obedient
Ferd. von Mueller.
