Sir,
I have the honor to inform you that the Chief Secretary has been requested to furnish to the Government of India at the proper season of the year four ounces of good seed of the Eucalyptus Globulus for experimental cultivation in the Kangra district of the Punjab, and I am to request that you will be so good as to cause the seed to be supplied to this office for transmission accordingly.

On 16 May 1877, G. Batten, Officiating Secretary to the Department of Revenue, Agriculture and Commerce, Government of India, wrote from Simla to the Chief Secretary, Victoria, asking for '4 ounces of good seed of the Eucalyptus Globulus for experimental cultivation in the Kangra district of the Punjab', to be sent to the departmental office in Calcutta (L77/7108, unit 952, VPRS 3991/P, Public Record Office, Victoria).
