6/9/69
I received back the Verbenaceae & Myoporinae quite safely, dear Mr Bentham. The close examination of their ovules seems to have given unexpected important results.
Lately I have got a series of Mr Schultz's plants of Arnhem's Land,
1
i.e. Frederick Schultze.
among them Helicteres spicata of Roxb & a few others new to Australia.
2
See M to J. Blackmore, 26 May 1869 (in this edition as 69-05-26b), and M to R. Schomburgk, 8 August 1869. No report by M on Schultze's collection has been found.
Mr Forrest brought also a few plants from the interior of W.A.
3
John Forrest, who led the 1869 expedition in search of Leichhardt relics; see J. Forrest (1869), and for a general account of the vegetation, B70.10.01.
Among these are a new Eriostemon and a few others apparently unknown.
4
Eriostemon brucei, B69.10.01, p. 38.
I trust the supplemental Proteaceae &c will reach you timely & in safety.
5
Sent in Box 53, per Norfolk, on 14 August 1869 (Notebook recording despatch of plants for Flora Australiensis, RB, MSS M44, Library, Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne).
Let me hope you are happy & well
Always your,
Ferd von Mueller.
