I have the pleasure, dear Professor Lindberg, to respond to your kind letter of the
28. Oct.
I trust the bryological collections will have reached you before the winter,
as at that season you could best work at them. But you may keep them for an other
year, if you find so much more time necessary for the elucidation of the species.
You generously send me by mail some of your excellent essays,
for which I am truly indebted. I have in readiness some of my works for you, but
they are too heavy to go by post. I will add also the two large illustrated volumes
of the Flora Tasmanicae,
and endeavour to send the whole to you by the ship Essex next week. I have very much
to thank you also for your great goodness in sending me such large lot of Musci and
Lichenastra, which will be of immense value, coming from the hands of so experienced
an observer as yourself. The Scandinavian Cotyledonar-plants will be also very acceptable.
Dr Hooker sends frequently cases to me; so he is likely to send your donations soon.
I intend to return you Australian phanerogams also, but amidst much heavy departmental
work I may not be able to redeem this promise at once. Wishing you health & strength
in the performance of your valuable scientific work, I remain, dear friend, your very
regardful
