Es hat mich unendlich gefreut, verehrter Herr Professor, dass Sie der Bewegung für die Aufsuchung Leichhardt Ihre fortgesetzte mächtige Fürsprache zuwenden. Bei Ihrem regen Interesse für das Unternehmen wird es erfreulich sein für Sie zu hören, dass M'Intyre einstweilen die Wüste hinter sich zurückliess, u. mit einer neu organisirten Parthie den Thomson-Fluss erreichte. Unglücklicherweise verlor er nahe 70 Pferde aus Wassermangel; doch sind die Dromedare alle gerettet; u da er sich nun in den tropischen Breiten bewegt, wird er nicht wieder zu leiden haben es sei denn gegen den Westen des Continents hin. Es gebrach uns an Mitteln die Kameele u Pferde nebst dem nöthigen Futter mit Schiffen zum Carpentaria-Golf zu senden.

Der berühmte Dr Barth zählt jetzt ja denn auch zu den Todten! — Erst vor wenigen Wochen sicherte er mir seine Theilnahme an der Förderung des Unternehmens für Leichhardt zu, u. versprach diese Sache der Damen in der Gesellschaft der Geographen in Berlin zu befürworten. Gewiss wird der Nachfolger Barths der Unternehmung gleiche Gunst zuwenden.

but all the dromedaries are saved; and as he now moves through the tropical latitudes, he should not have to suffer any more, except perhaps towards the west of the continent. We lacked the funds to transport the camels and horses together with the necessary fodder to the Gulf of Carpentaria by ship.

So the famous Dr Barth is also numbered among the dead now! — Only a few weeks ago he assured me of his participation in the promotion of the enterprise for Leichhardt, and promised to recommend this quest of the ladies to the Society for Geography in Berlin.
