Dear Dr Hooker.
The copy of your manual of New Zealand plants
you presented to me arrived yesterday, & also the admirable dissecting instruments,
for both of which contributions I owe you my best thanks. I shall scarcely have time
to point out any deficiencies at this moment, being overwhelmed with extraduties,
but it appears on a glance I had on this fine publication that
published by me, in the Edinb. bot. Soc. journal
is omitted, likewise one of Graham's Lobeliae noted by D.C. (L. rugulosa)

I have written to Mr Bentham, soliciting Mr Will. Woolls of Paramatta election into
the Linnean Society as an ordinary member. Though not a systematic author this Gentleman
would prove a worthy member, being well deserving of admission into the Linnean rank
by his zealous enquiry into the veg. of N.S. Wales, as the material in my herbarium
sufficiently manifests. Mr Woolls lost his only two children, accomplished young ladies
within the last two or three years, and I anticipate that phytologic studies will
remain amongst the few charms of the autumn of his life. Mr Kippist is also asked
to support Mr Woolls election

See M to G. Bentham, 21 April 1865. William Woolls was elected FLS on 4 May 1865 with the support of M, Bentham, J.
J. Bennett, J. Hooker and G. Macleay.
with friendly regards to you & your father
I continue to be your
Ferd Mueller.
