Verehrter Herr Professor,

Ich halte es für meine Pflicht Ihnen mitzutheilen, dass die Zusendung vortrefflicher Landkarten, welche wir hier Ihrer Güte verdanken, mich Ende vorigen Monats erreichte. Für den mir gütigst zu Gebot gestellten Theil dieser wahrhaft meisterhaften Arbeiten statte ich Ihnen denn meinen herzlichen Dank ab. Die übrigen Exemplare habe ich genau Ihrer Angabe gemäss vertheilt.

Selbstverständlich habe ich Ihnen noch mancherlei zu senden, was Ihnen in Ihren schönen Untersuchungen nützlich sein möchte u Einiges ist, wie Sie wissen, bereits für Sie unterweges.

Ich bemerke stets mit Erstaunen die rege Kraft, welche Sie entwickeln, u hoffe, dass Ihnen lange Kraft u Gesundheit bleibe, den wohlthätigen und ausgedehnten Einfluss auf die Geographie auszuüben, durch welchen Sie der Mitwelt und Nachwelt so grosse Dienste leisten.

I consider it my duty to inform you, that the consignment of excellent maps, which we here owe to your kindness, reached me at the end of last month.

See A. Petermann to M, 16 May 1863, and M to A. Petermann, 24 November 1863 (in this edition as 63-11-24a).

I thank you sincerely for the portion kindly offered to me of these truly masterly works. I have distributed the remaining copies exactly in accordance with your instructions.

Of course I still have to send you a fair number of items, which you might find useful in your splendid researches, and some that, as you know, are already on the way to you.

I always note with amazement the lively energy you exhibit, and hope that you will long retain vigour and good health to exercise your benevolent and extensive influence on geography, by which you render such great service in our own time and for posterity.
