Sir
I have the honor to bring under your notice the fact that, as the late Baron Von Mueller
kept the Government Botanist's Office at his private residence, the books documents
and specimens of the Govt. are very much mixed up with his private belongings. As
it will entail a good deal of labour to sort these I would respectfully submit for
your favourable consideration that the services of Mr. George French, who has been
in the late Govt. Botanist's private employ for many years, be secured on behalf of
the Government for a period not exceeding three months to assist in this work. His
wages hitherto were four (4) shillings per diem and I consider that to be a fair remuneration
for the Government to pay. As no funds are available in the Govt. Botanist's Branch
it would be necessary to provide the sum required out of some other vote.

I have the honor to be
Sir
Your obedient servant
