Dear Mr Bauerlen
Thanks for your letter of March 29th I was always glad to hear from you, and to secure now and again specimens, but I dont think that Mr Maiden was agreeable to such being sent; when in Sydney about a year or more ago I saw a very large packet at Mr Maiden's museum which you had collected, at least I understood they were from you, and he (Mr Maiden) promised to send me the difficult ones for determination. These however never came & I rather fancy they went to Baron Mueller. Re plants not appearing in "The Second Systematic Census of Australian Plants"

: you must have seen that the publication is got out mostly with a view to self laudation, whenever at all possible the names are changed so as to allow F.v.M to follow. Only a very few of mine are admitted while those of Mr. Tate are never omitted the reason of which is obvious, he describes for and with Mr Tate and some of these have but the habit of the plant given. You must see that all means are used to throw discredit upon Bentham's immortal work.

This cannot last long and in a few years time the system used by Baron Mueller in classifying will be forgotten the names restored to their proper place, and the Melbourne herbarium arranged in accordance with the herbaria of other parts of the globe. I think it is a rule with the L.S.
