I have received a letter from Baron von Mueller
together with a leaf of the
at first supposed to be an oak, which he asks me to forward to Sir Joseph Hooker
and yourself.

I was unwittingly the cause of the misconception by informing Baron Mueller that this
tree had true acorns: and as I have received so much kindness at his hands, I am anxious
that in making the correction, reference should be made to my having wrongly described
the fruit to him.

The herbarium sheet is heavily annotated including a note [by Daniel Oliver?]: Described as a
Quercus
by F v Mueller, (Vic. Nat. dec/84) [i.e. B84.12.03, pp. 123-4] Mr Guppy having given him leaves only as of an Acorn-bearing tree.
