(By hand)
Buenos Aires, 24 August 1870.
Your Excellency:
In the interest of promoting the mutual exchange of indigenous seeds with exotic seeds
from other countries that are equally rich in vegetation, the Rural Society has prepared
a varied and selected seed collection for Mr F von Müller, Director of the Botanical
Garden of Melbourne, in Australia, and it would appreciate that Your Excellency should
interpose his valuable influence so that it might arrive at its destination as soon
as possible.
Trusting in the chivalry of Your Excellency, I allow myself to include a communication
for Mr von Müller
and send the associated wooden-lined tin box, containing the aforementioned collection
of seeds.

See J. Martínez de Hoz to M, August 1870 (in this edition as 70-08-00).
I do not doubt that Your Excellency will be willing to render this service to the
Argentine Rural Society, in view of the fact that the exchange of plant products may
be advantageous both to the Argentine Republic and to the possessions where the flag
of Her Britannic Majesty waves.
I bow to the Minister with distinguished consideration,
José Martinez de Hoz,
President.
