Lieber Freund,
Die Kiste ist nun mehr als einen Monat später angekommen als ich erwarten musste, mit der Beförderung durch Segelschiff kann man niemals mit Sicherheit auf einen bestimmten Termin rechnen. Es sind ausser der Kiste nun aber zugleich auch zwei Fässer u ein Farrnstamm angelant, die viel später abgesandt sind. Ich habe alle vier Colli mit einem Male weiterbefördert, weil ich sie gerne los bin.
Wie gerne hätte ich den Farrnstamm gesehen, aber ich fürchtete er könne beim wiederholten Transport leiden. Er ist deshalb aus dem Dampfschiff sofort auf die Eisenbahn befördert. Es soll ein wunderschöner Stamm von

sein, wovon Sie den todten im Museum haben. Ich habe ihn mit den andern Sachen an das Königl. Naturaliencabinet addressirt, weil es die Beförderung erleichtert, Sie haben wohl die Güte, den Herrn Gartendirector in Kenntnis zu setzen, dass er sofort eingesetzt u gut nass gehalten werde, weil er sehr feucht wächst.
In den beifolgenden Listen ersehen Sie, was Sie mit dieser Sendung erhalten haben. Die Hölzer sind wohl theilweise für Hr Nördlinger bestimmt. Sie werden sich wohl darum vertragen u es nicht so machen, wie unsere Fischfreunde. Alles ist Ihnen frachtfrei zugesendet.
Sie verlangten in Ihrem Brief vom 18 Mai die Liste der in dem vorigen Fässchen enthalten gewesenen Fische. Wollen Sie nun meinen vorletzten Brief nachsehen, so werden sie die Liste darin finden, ich habe neulich so notirt. Mit den Nummern der Kupfererze kam ich leider nicht daran, da mein längst expedirter Hausknecht sie mir nicht abgeliefert hat. Ich habe übrigens meine Noth unserm Freunde v Müller geklagt, er wird die Liste mit Nummern schon wieder schicken, oder so bezeichnen, dass Sie sich daraus vernehmen können. In der vorigen Woche langte ein jangjähriger Gehülfe von Dr v Müller hier an, der mir manche interessante Nachrichten überbringt. Der arme Teufel ist aber bei der Ankunft in Liverpool seiner sämtlichen Baarschaft beraubt, so dass er ohne meine Hülfe gar nicht hätte zu Hause kommen können. —
Hoffentlich sind Sie von Ihrer Ferienreise gestärkt u glücklich zurückgekehrt. Sein Sie so freundlich, mir bis zum 12 August die Ankunft der Gegenstände anzuzeigen, an diesem Tage um 1 Uhr geht die Briefpost von hier ab. Dr v Müller wird nach Empfang dieses Briefes (Anfang October) eine Reise antreten, deshalb möchte es ihm lieb sein, von der Ankunft der Kisten etc etwas zu hören.

Dear Friend,
The crate has now arrived more than a month later than I would have expected. You can never count with certainty on a definite date with transport by sailing ship. Besides the crate, however, two barrels and a fern trunk have also arrived at the same time that were sent much later. I have sent on all four items of freight at once, because I am glad to be rid of them.
How I would have liked to see the fern trunk, but I feared it could suffer with repeated transport. Therefore it was transported immediately from the steamship to the railway. It is said to be a beautiful trunk of Todea rivularis , of which you have the dead one in the museum. I have addressed it with the other things to the Royal natural history cabinet , because it makes the transport easier. You probably have had the kindness of informing the director of the garden, so that it is planted immediately and kept well dampened, because it grows in very moist conditions.
In the enclosed lists you will see what you have received with this consignment. The woods are probably partly destined for Herr Nördlinger. You will probably agree about it and not do as our fish friends. Everything is sent to you freight free .
In your letter of 18 May, you asked for the list of the fishes contained in the previously arrived cask. If you now have a look at my last but one letter, you will find the list in it. I have recently so noted. Unfortunately I did not come across the numbers of the copper ores, because my long ago dispatched servant had not handed them over to me. By the way I have poured out my distress to our friend von Mueller.

who brought much interesting news. However, the poor devil was robbed of all his cash on arrival in Liverpool, so that he would not have been able to get home at all without my help.
It is to be hoped you have returned from you holiday travel strengthened and happy. Be so kind as to report to me the arrival of objects up to 12 August, on which day the post goes off at 1 pm here. Dr von Mueller will begin a trip after receipt of this letter (beginning of October), therefore he would like to hear something of the arrival of the crates &c.
