April 3, 1856
Sir,
I have the honour to request that you will inform me whether the Committee of Management of the Botanical Gardens are willing to transfer to the University the collection of dried plants made by Dr Mueller; and, if so, upon what terms, and when they can be delivered to Professor McCoy.
At present they lie at the Gardener's lodge, of no use to the public, an encumbrance to the gardeners, and in danger of being lost and injured. At the University they would be taken care of, classified and open to the inspection of those who take an interest in Botany.
I have the honor to be, Sir,
Your obedient Servant
(Signed) Redmond Barry
Chancellor of the Univ. of Melbourne.
To the Chairman of
the Committee of Management of the Botanic Gardens.
