While the addressee is uncertain and might be Charles H. French's brother George,
if M wished to give advice to the latter, he would surely have done so orally and
not by letter since George was his private servant, whereas Charles H. French had left the herbarium in July 1895 and was permanently employed in the Department
of Agriculture as assistant to his father, the Government Entomologist.
Your brother, dear Mr French, undertook to convey to you my advise, not to miss the rare chance of securing a multitude of Acianthus caudotus. It will be in your own interest, as the specimens will all be sent out as
collected by you.
