This evening, dear Mr Macdonald, I received the enclosed letter from our friend Major
Boyd.
When President Thomson's
communication arrives, I will draft a reply, which you can adopt or alter, when it
can be circulated among our Councillors for their opinion. Any how, any conference
should stand on til I have in March delivered the triennial adress, on which occasion
we will be able to see, whether our Governor can afford us such support as rendering
it desirable to have a conference under his influence. His Excellency's attention
is required in so many directions that we must not expect too much from him in our
cause.
