— The grass received is, Baron von Mueller informs us, the , the Cockshin grass, in its smooth state. It is, when not beset with long bristlets, an admirable summer grass, particularly for humid soils. Though not of long individual duration it is maintained easily by dissemination. The foliage is broad and soft. That it suddenly may appear is accounted for either by the grain being swept down by swollen currents or by birds, which are fond of picking the grain, carrying some of the seed-bearing blossoms from place to place, as the seeds thus cling to their plumage. It should prove a splendid grass also for cage birds when seeding.]
