Journalist's error for Panicum crus-gall?
It has no similarity to what is here called Buffalo Grass, nor to what in America passes under that name. It is a native of eastern countries in the northern hemisphere, Baron Von Mueller states, and an excellent grass for nutritiveness, and sought with avidity by pasture animals, seeding freely and also springing up with ease from the dropped seeds where some slight humidity exists, and where not prevented to get a footing by a dense sward of
pasture plants.]
