Best thanks, dear Miss Henley, for the fruits of Mesembrianthemum edule.
1
See M to M. Henley, 9 January 1896 (in this edition as 96-01-09a).
You are evidently highly successful with the culture of this plant. The soil of your garden must be particularly well adapted to this Mesembrianthemum, or do you adscribe your success to other causes?
Allow me also to ask, whether the fruits, kindly sent by you, are kiln dried . In that case, or if other wise any high temperature had been used in the drying process, the seeds would not germinate, but the fruits would still form an excellent exhibit in the economic Museum. But I would then beg of you, to squeze out the pulp of some fruits on a plate, and dry it in a mild shady place, not in sunheat, as then the seeds would be almost sure to be fit for germinating.
With best wishes to all of you
Ferd von Mueller.
