Have been as overwhelmed with work, dear Mr Macdonald, as I had the additional duties
of Hon. Examiner toward[s] the end of the year at several Gov. establishments, that
now only most of my Newyears greetings and presents are sent out. Let me also express
then to you your kind Lady and bright young daughter that the new annual span of time,
on which now we have entered, will prove a joyful [one]
to you all. Herewith a little present to Lily out of Mess Bloggs Atelier. I took
out the flacon of Boronia, as I wish sending it as a novelty to Kew-botanic Museum
near London.

Always regardfully your
Ferd von Mueller.
I am getting off a Collector to New Guinea
so that so that
I can [hold]
out hope to our geographic branch that we get important new material for our meetings
and publications. Tell all your friends, that my feelings are entirely with Britain,
to which I swore allegiance already 1847. I do not think that any Government would
enter on liabilities to
keep a
vessel
for years,
besides there would be no chance, to watch from
here
for a favorable season. Indeed by a mere change of wind an open sea may be filled
with packice in a few days.
