Letter not found. The text given here is from Daily news (Perth, WA), 20 January 1896, p. 2 (B96.01.02). It is introduced by: 'Baron Von Mueller has written as follows to Mr. W. Webb, naturalist, Albany:—'.
This time, dear Mr. Webb, I would merely ask whether it would be impossible for you to induce the newspapers to ask settlers on or near salt bush country to send me specimens with ripe seeds (fruit) of those salt-bushes on which herds and flocks browse with predilection. I desire to fix the names of the W. A. best salt bushes for my work on select plants.

The current edition, the 9th, was B95.08.04; M was evidently planning an update.
We learnt with scientific exactitude gradually which particular species are the best throughout the Eastern colonies for re-sowing where the salt bushes are getting eaten out by pastoral animals. So many of the W. A. salt bushes and salt herbs are peculiar to your territory that I would like to elicit precise information as to which of the sorts are most praiseworthy.
