The receipt of the letter was recorded in the minutes of the Borough Council meeting of 15 January 1896 under 'Correspondence inward': ' Baron von Mueller Re Marram Grass Seed for Government of India Seed to be forwarded in due time' (Minute book 11, 06 Jun e 1894 - 18 May 1898, p. 191, VPRS 11097/P0001, Port Fairy Borough Council records VA 2488, Public Record Office, Victoria).
[From Baron von Mueller, Melbourne, stating that the Government of India was desirous, through the office of the Hon. the Premier of Victoria, of obtaining a large quantity of marum grass seed, and as that sent from Port Fairy last year gave good results, he requested that the council would kindly let him know whether they could supply the required seed, the cost of gathering which would be refunded. Some more seeds of economic plants would be shortly sent to the council. — The Town Clerk intimated that he had received the seeds referred to, and had handed them to the Ranger. — Seed to be forwarded when ripe, in about three weeks' time.]
