Allow me to ask, honored Sir, whether any information has been received from the Office
of the Agent General concerning the books destined for Katharinenburg,
so kindly granted by the Hon the Premier for the Ural Science-Society.
I had quite recently a letter on other subjects from the Secretary there,
who does not mention the arrival of the books, but the way to that place may through
partly wild country be a difficult and tedious one. Perhaps to morrows mail or one
of the following may bring some tidings about this sending.

i.e. Ekaterinburg, Russia.

On 11 December 1895. R. Rogers, Secretary to the Premier, minuted: 'Transferred to
the Under Secretary who I understand has the previous papers'. On 12 December, W.
Callaway for the Under Secretary asked the Librarian of the Public Library if he could
'give any information on this matter'. M. Dowden, Librarian, replied on 17 December:
'The works were duly forwarded to the Uralian Natural History Society through the
Agent-General as there is no Parcels Post between this colony and Russia. They should
have reached Ekaterinburg some time ago, and in all probability the acknowledgment
of their receipt is now on its way to Melbourne.' This information was forwarded to
M on 19 December, who returned the file 'with best thanks for information' the same
day.

Very regardfully
your
Ferd. von Mueller.
