Unless this was a partial draft, a letter may not have been sent, as the MS was found wrapped around a fruit specimen of Eucalyptus drepanophylla (MEL 1607138). It is annotated by unknown: 'FvM Cape Rive (sic) Queensland 1895 S. Johnson'.
The correspondent may have been Robert B. W. McComas, son-in-law of Dr William and Mrs Jane Cutts, having married Ethel Jane Cutts in December 1893 (Argus, 1 January 1894, p. 1). However, no explicit evidence has been found that M maintained his contacts with the Cutts family after the Ladies' Leichhardt Search Committee became inactive and M asked Dr Cutts to explain his views on planting school grounds with native plants (M to W. Cutts, 24 April 1872).
